7 words of Christ from the cross: Today itself you will be with me in Heaven
7 words for 7 days
The seven words of Christ from the Cross.
2)
Today itself you will be with me in Heaven.
This is an extraordinary fruit of love and of his way of living it.
One of the two sinnersconverts and defends Jesus by acknowledging his
sins together with Jesus' innocence. “We deserve to die for what we
have done but him is condemned unjustly”. Probably he had just
heard what Jesus said in defense of those who were crucifying him and
is now conquered by those words. He is about to die and is desperate
but is conquered by the strength coming out from this estranged
companion of his. In Him he sees a spark of light, an unexpected hope
of life, a reason to accept his fate. He, a sinner, is conquered by
the truth of what is happening and by a drop of faith, surely planted
in him by the Holy Spirit. “Jesus remember me when you come into
your kingdom”. Yes he has been conquered by Jesus, but conquered in
the full meaning of this word because now Jesus can tell him: “On
this very day you will be with me in Heaven”.
On
this very day? “What about his many sins?” “It is not right”,
we would say. “Right”: how many times we make use in the wrong
way of this word just to defend our positions against others. But
Jesus said: “My Father wants that none should perish of those he
has entrusted to me”. This is “Right” according to Jesus.
Justice in Mercy because to do what is “right” means to do what
God wants and he wants that all of us be saved. If Jesus wanted to
achieve human justice at any cost he would have not accepted to climb
on the cross. But he climbed it and from there he reigns.
What about us, his followers? What is “Right” according to us?
Jesus has already promised us his kingdom, but are we sure that we
want to enter it according to his conditions?
Jesus does not answer to the second sinner, as he had not answered to
those who were mocking him. I am sure that in his heart he has
prayed for him and maybe, in the last breath of his life, he too has
seen a spark from the Holy Spirit and has converted. When we go to
Jesus Kingdom, will see what happened.
From
the words of St. Luigi Orione: “Place
me, O Lord, at the mouth of hell, so that through Your mercy I may
close it. May my secret martyrdom for the salvation of souls be my
paradise and my supreme happiness”.
