the 7 word of Jesus from the cross: 5) My God my God why have you forsaken me?
7 words for 7 days
The seven words of Christ from the Cross.
5) My God, my
God, why have you forsaken me?
We are at the climax
of the passion. Jesus has a doubt of faith? It seems so. He has
become one like us in all things but sin and has
some moments of doubt: this
is not a sin. He wanted to carry on himself all our weaknesses so to
conquer them with his love. But while carrying them they pull him
down as low as possible. Even in this situation Jesus shows the
strength of his love. Even in this deep moment he will stand in faith
and will then add “In your hands I commend my spirit”. While in
the desert the devil had tempted him to sell out his divinity in
order to get power; in the garden of Gethsemane he tempted him to
avoid the sufferance, now to wish that a final miracle would put an
end to all this tragic events. And instead
nothing is going to happen. Humanity must be purified in all its
weaknesses so to be fully “divinized”. He speaks using the words
of Psalm 21. To use
the word of God does not mean that He is
not suffering but it shows that even in this moments so dark Jesus is
attached to prayer and to the word of God as the only remaining
source of strength. Jesus may be weak in His
emotions but He is
strong in his faith and at the end faith will triumph. He never
doubted about the existence of God but on the fact that God was
taking care of him. It is not a temptation against faith but against
love but his Love, the one with a capital L, wins against the
emotions because even when he was not feeling anymore love, his Faith
and his Love (which are always linked together) win.
How many times we too doubt that God cares for us.
How many times we ask “why” and we do not see any answer. How
many times we think
to be unworthy of God's love, or we
think that we are not important enough for Him.
But he will never abandon us, he only wants that
our faith be strong and we wait for Him with love.
From the words of Saint Luigi Orione: “In
order to conquer for God and to win others over, we need, first, to
live are intense life of God within ourselves, to have inside us a
dominating faith; a great ideal the denial of ourselves for others
should be the flame that burns and shines in us, setting our lives on
fire in an idea and a sacred love which is stronger.” … “We are
intoxicated with charity, fools of the Cross of the Christ
crucified”.
